Saint Francis Hospital is a client-centered, results-driven medical facility in New England. Their Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program helps patients recover faster and spend less time in the hospital.

Project Overview
Saint Francis Hospital required an easy-to-read print and digital brochure for patients undergoing major surgery. The brochure needed to clearly explain the ERAS program while catering to a patient demographic that is primarily White and Hispanic.
Market research and discussions with the Project Manager uncovered an ongoing communication gap with Hispanic patients. Although translators were available, most patient resources were in English, which limited understanding and involvement.
I was tasked with creating English and Spanish versions of the brochure to bridge this gap, integrating complex medical advice into clear, culturally relevant visuals tailored for both audiences.

Research & Content Development
- Bilingual Approach: Developed fully translated Spanish content to improve inclusivity and patient trust.
- Audience Analysis: Identified cultural and linguistic needs through demographic research and hospital team consultations.
- Medical Content Translation: Collaborated closely with the Project Manager to translate dense ERAS program details into plain language without sacrificing accuracy.
- Readability Enhancement: Replaced jargon with simple terminology where appropriate, ensuring accessibility for non-medical readers.
Design & Brand Integration
- Visual Communication: Generated informational graphics and iconography to make complex concepts quickly understandable.
- Brand Consistency: Reinforced Saint Francis Hospital’s visual identity across brochure and digital layouts.
- Clear Layout: Designed step-by-step sections with distinct visuals, ensuring patients could easily follow the surgical process.
- Compliance: Ensured all healthcare information met medical accuracy and regulatory standards.
Outcomes & Impact
This project alleviated miscommunication between patients, nurses and doctors. The brochure served as an accessible patient resource and bridged the language barriers. Trust between patients and hospital staff was strengthened as a result.
